In the last few weeks various Rockwell Collins employees were at PIEK\u00b4s head office for an IPC certification course.<\/p>\n<p>Rockwell Collins is widely known in the aviation industry, producing numerous articles ranging from seats and de-icing systems to oxygen systems and ovens. A complete overview of Rockwell Collins products can be found on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rockwellcollins.com\/\">http:\/\/www.rockwellcollins.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Electronic engineer Joost was one of the Rockwell Collins employees who participated in the PCB design CID course, and he graciously consented to being interviewed.<\/p>\n<p>PIEK: Which developments have you observed in your field in the last few years?<br \/>\nJoost has an interesting observation: \u2018My department is responsible for developing and producing ovens that are mounted in planes. We can supply a certified oven for every plane imaginable. What we have seen in the past few years is that the functionality is no longer the only important factor, but the design has become a major focus point.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>PIEK: We read and hear a lot about 3D printing. How do you see this in your line of work?<br \/>\nJoost: \u2018I do not see a 3D print as a replacement for PCB just yet, though we have been using a 3D printer for prototyping for many years. It is a really good tool, and we love making use of it.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>PIEK: You have turned to us for over 15 years. Can you tell us something about your choice for PIEK?<br \/>\n\u2018PIEK is a well-established name in the electronics interconnect industry. Rockwell Collins always sends its staff to PIEK, because PIEK\u2019s instructors know the IPC regulations inside out and their classes are so clear and insightful.
